Robert Carter (* 1663; † 4. August 1732) war ein Kolonist in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Carter war der reichste Pflanzer in der britischen Kolonie Virginia. Um 1722 arbeiteten circa 1.000 Sklaven auf seinen Tabakplantagen. Seine Familie wurde so mächtig, dass man sagte: „Schüttle irgendeinen Baum in Virginia und ein Carter wird herunterfallen“. Drei seiner Nachfahren unterzeichneten die Unabhängigkeitserklärung und zwei wurden Präsidenten der Vereinigten Staaten. Weitere berühmte Nachfahren sind General E. Lee und die Country-Sängerin June Carter Cash.
