Das Ring-Center ist ein Einkaufszentrum der ECE am östlichen Rand der Berliner Innenstadt. Es befindet sich östlich und westlich der Ringbahn am Bahnhof Frankfurter Allee in den Bezirken Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg und Lichtenberg. Mit 45.200 m² Verkaufsfläche ist das Ring-Center eines der größten Einkaufscenter Berlins.

Geschichte

Das Ring-Center wurde im Oktober 1995 auf dem Gelände einer ehemaligen Markthalle eröffnet.[1] Architekten waren Hentrich-Petschnigg & Partner International (HPP) aus Berlin.[2]

Im Oktober 1997 wurde das Areal um das Ring-Center II auf der Lichtenberger Seite der Ringbahn erweitert. Projektiert wurde der Erweiterungsbau wiederum von HPP.[3][4] Gemeinsam verfügen Ring-Center I und II über 36.500 m² Verkaufsfläche für 120 Ladengeschäfte.[5]

Auf der Freifläche vor dem Ring-Center II war zunächst ein 130 Meter hoher Büroturm geplant. Für das von Adrian D. Smith (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP) in Zusammenarbeit mit HPP International projektierte 32-stöckige Bürohochhaus[6] fanden sich jedoch keine Nutzer, sodass das Projekt verworfen wurde.[7] Stattdessen wurde das Ring-Center abermals erweitert. Der Baubeginn für das Ring-Center III war der November 2005.[8] Das Gebäude wurde von ECE in Eigenregie projektiert,[9] Architekt war Klaus M. Hoffmann.[10] Einziger Mieter des am 28. März 2007 eröffneten Gebäudes ist die Galeria Kaufhof, die im Gegenzug ihre Filiale am Lichtenberger Anton-Saefkow-Platz schloss. Die Verkaufsfläche des vierstöckigen Ring-Center III umfasst rund 8.700 m².[11][12]
