Rate

Als Rate bezeichnet man im mathematischen und physikalischen Zusammenhang eine auf eine Zeiteinheit bezogene Messgröße, eine so genannte Stromgröße. Sie kann eine relative oder eine absolute Größe beschreiben. Im Finanzwesen wird mit Rate eine einzelne Geldzahlung in einer Reihe von regelmäßigen Ratenzahlungen bezeichnet.

Der Begriff der Rate wird allerdings auch häufig auf den prozentualen Anteil, also eine Quote oder ein Verhältnis (Quotient, englisch ratio) von Bestandsgrößen angewendet, was zu Missverständnissen führen kann. Speziell in der englischen Sprache bedeutet rate einerseits Geschwindigkeit, wird andererseits aber auch für Quotientenangaben verwendet.
