Queensbridge, auch QB genannt, ist ein sozialer Brennpunkt in New York City. Queensbridge hat eine der höchsten Kriminalitätsraten der ganzen Stadt.
Lage
Er liegt auf der Insel Long Island im New Yorker Stadtteil Queens zwischen dem Vernon Boulevard und der 21. Straße. Der Name Queensbridge kommt von der Queensborough Bridge (59. Straße), die sich südlich von QB befindet. QB ist in zwei Komplexe eingeteilt, die North Houses (40th Avenue) und die South Houses (41st Avenue). Es sind 6 Blocks und 96 Gebäude die zur Queensbridge zählen. Eine U-Bahnstation am südlichen Rand von QB wurde nach dem Viertel benannt.
Musik
Queensbridge hat sich in der Vergangenheit als Nährboden für Hip-Hop-Künstler erwiesen. Marlon „Marley Marl" Williams war der erste einer langen Reihe anerkannter Musiker aus „The Bridge“.
Mitte der 80er kam es zum Battle zwischen QB und der Bronx. KRS One vertrat die Bronx und disste MC Shan und ganz Queensbridge mit The Bridge Is Over.
QB sind die größten Public Housing Projects der Welt.
