Qudsia

Qudsia Begum (auch Kudsiyya; * 1801; † 17. Dezember 1881) war Regentin des Fürstenstaates Bhopal.

Eine interessante Wendung nahm die Geschichte Bhopals, als 1819 die 18 Jahre alte Qudsia Begum (auch bekannt als Gohar Begum) die Regentschaft nach der Ermordung ihres Ehemannes übernahm. Sie wurde die erste weibliche Regentin von Bhopal. Obwohl sie Analphabetin war, war sie mutig und weigerte sich die Parda-Tradition zu befolgen. Sie verfügte, dass ihre zwei Jahre alte Tochter Sikandar Jahan ihr als Regentin folgen sollte. Keiner der männlichen Familienmitglieder traute sich, ihre Entscheidung infrage zu stellen. Sie sorgte sehr gut für ihre Untertanen und sie pflege ihr Abendmahl erst einzunehmen, wenn ihr berichtet wurde, das alle ihre Untertanen gegessen haben. Sie erbaute die Jama Masjid Bhopals. Sie erbaute sich auch einen wunderschönen Palast, das Gohar Mahal. Sie regierte bis 1837. Bevor sie starb, hatte sie ihre Tochter bereits angemessen darauf vorbereitet, den Staat zu regieren.
