Port Arthur ist eine 56.000 Einwohner zählende Stadt in Südtexas unmittelbar an der Grenze zu Louisiana.

Port Arthur liegt am Westufer des Sabine Lake. Die Rainbow Bridge über den Neches River verbindet Port Arthur mit Bridge City.

Der Gulf Intracoastal Waterway verläuft durch die künstliche Insel Pleasure Island vom Sabine Lake getrennt, nahe der Stadt. Der Waterway und die Insel wurden zwischen 1899 und 1908 durch das Corps of Engineers errichtet.

Port Arthur ist über den Sabine Lake mit dem Golf von Mexiko verbunden. Die Stadt hat mehrere Erdölraffinerien und ist ein wichtiges Zentrum der Erdölverarbeitung.

Klima

In Port Arthur herrscht subtropisches Klima mit milden Wintern und heißen und feuchten Sommern. Die Region ist durch Hurrikans gefährdet. Im September 2005 erlitt Port Arthur durch Hurrikan Rita schwere Zerstörungen.
