Pigadia

Pigadia (griechisch Πιγάδια (n. pl.)), oder Karpathos Stadt, ist die Hauptstadt der griechischen Insel Karpathos. Sie hat etwa 3.000 Einwohner und erstreckt sich auf einer weiten Fläche entlang der Vronti-Bucht.

Pigadia wurde um 1000 v. Chr. gegründet, damals wurde die Stadt Poseidion genannt. Wegen ständiger Piratenüberfälle wurde die Stadt im Mittelalter aufgegeben.

Einige Jahrhunderte später wurde die Stadt wieder aufgebaut und die Bewohner nannten sie Possi. Im Jahr 1892 wurde die Stadt vom türkischen Gouverneur der Insel zur Hauptstadt ernannt. Einige Zeit später erhielt sie ihren heutigen Namen „Pigadia“.
