Der Pelorus Sound ist ein versunkenes Tal in den Marlborough Sounds in Neuseeland.

Er liegt nahe dem Nordostende der Südinsel Neuseelands und ist einer der längsten Meeresarme Neuseelands. Er windet sich zwischen steilen, bewaldeten Hügeln 35 km in südlicher Richtung. Sein Südende befindet sich nahe der Stadt Havelock, 30 km nordwestlich von Blenheim. Der Sund hat mehrere Hauptarme, von denen Tennyson Inlet, Tawhitinui Reach und Kenepuru Sound die wichtigsten sind.

Die Wirtschaft der Gegend um den Pelorus Sounds beruht auf der Forstwirtschaft (insbesondere Kiefern), obwohl einige Gebiete des ursprünglichen Waldes erhalten blieben sowie Muschelfarmen im Sound. Es gibt auch etwas Tourismus und es werden zunehmend private Ferienhäuser gebaut. Die meisten Siedlungsplätze sind schwer von Land zu erreichen und werden hauptsächlich über den 'Pelorus Express' bedient. Dieses Postboot mit 40 Passagierplätzen fährt einmal in der Woche von Havelock aus drei verschiedene Routen im Sound [1]
