P.O.N.D. (oft auch POND oder Pond) ist eine deutsche Band, die sich auf elektronische Instrumentalmusik spezialisiert. Ihr Musikstil weist Ähnlichkeiten mit dem von Tangerine Dream auf, wenngleich viele Stücke einen eher „poppigen“ Charakter haben.

Geschichte

Die Band wurde um 1978 im Ost-Berliner Stadtteil Prenzlauer Berg vom Schlagzeuger Wolfgang Fuchs und Keyboarder Manfred Hennig gegründet. Hennig stieg 1981 aus und ging zu City. An seine Stelle stieß Harald Wittkowski zu P.O.N.D. Erstmalig erfolgreich wurde die Band mit dem Stück Planetenwind. In den folgenden Jahren erschienen bei Amiga unter Regie von Jürgen Lahrtz die erfolgreichsten LPs: Planetenwind sowie der Soundtrack Auf der Seidenstraße, die beide bisher sechsstellige Verkaufszahlen erreichten. Als erste Formation in der damaligen DDR spielten P.O.N.D. Elektronische Musik live, unter anderem in Planetarien.

Ab 1989 besteht die Band aus Wolfgang Fuchs und seinen beiden Zwillingssöhnen Frank und Sascha. 1993 erscheint das Album Space Walks, das von der Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH in Auftrag gegeben und vor allem als Hintergrundmusik für Planetarien konzipiert wurde.

Das bislang letzte Studioalbum transPONDer, das 2003 nach langjähriger Pause erschien, beinhaltet ein Buch, das zum 25jährigen Bestehen der Gruppe herausgebracht wurde.

Die Veröffentlichung Hallelujah ist eine Single, die nur in einer Auflage von 100 Stück gefertigt wurde. Sie ist nicht im Handel erhältlich, sondern nur als musikalisches Teilstück des Kalenders. Beide darauf befindlichen Titel sind jedoch in leicht abgewandelten Versionen auf dem Album Soundtracks zu finden. Auf dem Booklet dieses Albums werden auch erste Ausblicke auf das Album gewährt, das 2008 erschien.

P.O.N.D. spielt inzwischen wieder in der Originalbesetzung Wolfgang „Paule“ Fuchs und Harald „Harry“ Wittkowski. Seit 2003 gibt es auch einen P.O.N.D.-Fanclub; mehr dazu findet sich auf der Website von P.O.N.D.
