Open Software Foundation

Die Open Software Foundation (OSF) war ein Softwarekonsortium, das 1988 von Bull, HP, IBM, DEC und Philips gegründet wurde, um neue offene Industriestandards für Unix-Betriebssysteme zu entwickeln, die unabhängig von dem von AT&T entwickelten System V sind. 1996 schloss sich die OSF mit X/Open zur Open Group zusammen.

  • Mit dem Unix-Derivat OSF/1 (später Digital UNIX, noch später Tru64) schuf die OSF ein auf Mach aufbauendes UNIX-ähnliches Betriebssystem, welches die Entwicklung des GNU-Betriebssystems begünstigte.
