Artabasdos

Artabasdos (griechisch Ἀρταβάσδος; † 743) war als Usurpator gegen Konstantin V. byzantinischer Kaiser von 741/42 bis 743.

Kurz nach der Thronbesteigung Konstantins (741) griff Artabasdos mit der Unterstützung der starken ikonophilen (Gegner der Bilderstürmer) Fraktion sowohl im Klerus als auch im Volk (daher sein Beiname Ikonophilos) nach der Macht in Konstantinopel, wobei er seinen Sohn Nikephoros (und vielleicht auch dessen Bruder Niketas) zum Mitkaiser erheben ließ. Konstantin floh in die Berge Isauriens, kehrte aber mit dem asiatischen Teil der byzantinischen Armee zurück, schlug im Jahr 743 Artabasdos’ Streitkräfte und ließ ihn sowie einen Teil seiner Anhänger blenden.
