National Command Authority

Der Begriff National Command Authority (NCA) bezeichnet die höchste militärische Befehlsgewalt der USA, die von zwei Personen gebildet und ausgeübt wird: dem Präsidenten der Vereinigten Staaten und dem Verteidigungsminister der Vereinigten Staaten bzw. deren jeweilige höchstrangige lebenden und amtstauglichen Nachfolger (Vizepräsident, Stv. Verteidigungsminister usw.) in der Befehlskette. Das logistische und kommunikationstechnische Zentrum der NCA ist das National Military Command Center (NMCC) im Pentagon.

Der NCA alleine obliegt die Entscheidung über einen Angriff der USA mit Nuklearwaffen. Dazu müssen beide Personen gemeinsam dem Vorsitzenden der Joint Chiefs of Staff den Befehl zur Durchführung des Nuklearschlags geben.[1]
